Setting Up UniPixel With: TikTok

UniPixel needs two things from TikTok: your Pixel ID and an Access Token. Both come from TikTok Ads Manager. Once you have them, paste them into UniPixel’s TikTok Setup page and you’re tracking.

The Shopping List

You need four things, in this order:

  1. A TikTok Business Account
  2. A TikTok Ads Manager account
  3. A TikTok Pixel (created inside Ads Manager)
  4. An Access Token for the Events API

If you already run TikTok ads, you probably have the first three. The access token is the one most people need to generate.

Already Have Some of These?

If you’re already running TikTok ads and have a pixel set up:

  • Pixel ID – go to TikTok Ads Manager > Assets > Events > Manage. Select your pixel. The Pixel ID is shown at the top of the page, or under Pixel Settings. It’s a numeric string.
  • Access Token – on the same pixel page, look under Settings > Events API. If you’ve already generated a token, it may be partially hidden. If you haven’t, you’ll generate one in the steps below.

If both of those are in hand, skip ahead to “What to Enter in UniPixel.”

If You’re Starting From Scratch

Step 1: Create a TikTok Business Account

Go to TikTok for Business (tiktok.com/business) and sign up. If you already have a personal TikTok account, you can convert it to a business account or create a new one specifically for advertising.

Step 2: Set Up TikTok Ads Manager

Once your business account exists, go to TikTok Ads Manager (ads.tiktok.com). Complete the initial setup: business information, billing country, and time zone. You don’t need to create a campaign or add payment yet.

Step 3: Create a Pixel

In Ads Manager:

  1. Go to Assets > Events in the top navigation.
  2. Click Manage under Web Events.
  3. Click Set Up Web Events or Create Pixel.
  4. Choose TikTok Pixel (not Events API Only, you want both).
  5. Give it a name, for example your website name.
  6. For the installation method, select Manually Install Pixel Code. Don’t worry, you won’t actually need to install any code. UniPixel handles this.
  7. Click Next or Complete Setup.

Your Pixel ID is now visible on the pixel overview page.

Step 4: Generate an Access Token

Still on your pixel page in Ads Manager:

  1. Click Settings (or find the Events API section).
  2. Under Events API, look for Generate Access Token.
  3. Click it. TikTok generates a long token string.
  4. Copy it immediately. TikTok only shows the full token once. Store it somewhere safe before pasting it into UniPixel.

If you lose the token, you can generate a new one, but the old one stops working.

What to Enter in UniPixel

Go to your WordPress admin > UniPixel > TikTok > Tag Setup:

  • Turn On/Enabled – switch this on.
  • Pixel Setting – select “Include TikTok’s Tracking Pixel for me” (unless you’ve already added the TikTok pixel to your site through another method).
  • Pixel ID – paste your numeric Pixel ID.
  • Access Token – paste the token you generated in Step 4.

Click Update Settings. TikTok tracking is now live.

What to Ignore

TikTok’s setup flow will try to get you to:

  • Install pixel code manually – you don’t need to. UniPixel adds the TikTok pixel script automatically when you select “Include TikTok’s Tracking Pixel for me.”
  • Use a partner integration – skip this. UniPixel is your integration.
  • Set up events inside TikTok’s Events Manager – skip this too. Events are configured inside UniPixel. WooCommerce events (Purchase, AddToCart, etc.) are tracked automatically. Custom events are set up in UniPixel’s TikTok Events page.
  • Use TikTok’s Shopify or WooCommerce plugin – you don’t need it. UniPixel replaces this entirely.

Do I Need to Install the TikTok Pixel Code on My Site?

No. When you select “Include TikTok’s Tracking Pixel for me” in UniPixel, the pixel script is added to your site automatically. You don’t need to paste any code into your theme, header, or a tag manager.

If you’ve already added the TikTok pixel through another plugin or manually in your theme, select “TikTok’s Tracking Pixel is already on my site” instead. UniPixel will send events through the existing pixel and handle server-side tracking alongside it.

Does This Handle Both Client-Side and Server-Side?

Yes. UniPixel sends TikTok events both ways:

  • Client-side – through TikTok’s pixel script running in the visitor’s browser (ttq.track).
  • Server-side – directly from your WordPress server to TikTok’s Events API.

Both are sent with the same event ID, so TikTok deduplicates them automatically. They count as one conversion, not two. This is configured per event in UniPixel’s TikTok Events page.

Common Questions

Do I need TikTok’s own WooCommerce plugin? No. UniPixel tracks WooCommerce events (Purchase, AddToCart, InitiateCheckout, ViewContent) automatically. TikTok’s WooCommerce plugin would duplicate this.

What if I already have TikTok’s pixel on my site from another plugin? Select “TikTok’s Tracking Pixel is already on my site” in UniPixel. This prevents loading the pixel script twice while still allowing UniPixel to send server-side events and custom events.

How do I know it’s working? After setup, use UniPixel’s Testing Console to see events fire in real time. You can also check TikTok Ads Manager > Events > Diagnostics to verify events are being received. Allow up to 20 minutes for TikTok to start showing incoming events.

What events does UniPixel send to TikTok? With WooCommerce: CompletePayment (Purchase), AddToCart, InitiateCheckout, and ViewContent, all automatic. Plus PageView if you enable it, and any custom events you configure.
